Went for a service call today. When going to the furnace the customer mentioned it wouldn’t come on. I decided to jump the system and it still wouldn’t come on, but it gave me a fault code. The code was “motor can’t run”. Once I got the code I hooked my motor tester up and the noticed that the motor was bad. After getting the part I replaced it and added a surge protector on the switch to the furnace. Furnace is up and running upon departure. Thank you for choosing LBA!

Upon arrival inspected scope of work for replacement of flue pipe, from water heater up into attic. When tracking flue exhaust for water heater noticed he where flue pipe goes up from basement, leads to wall dividing dining room and kitchen. When looking at wall from entry point noticed there are 2 return vents, one in dining room and the other in the kitchen. Exhaust pipe looks as if it is sharing stud cavity with return vents, speaking with HVAC that is not legal for code issues. Scope of work will need to changed and updated as well as pricing, if this route is chosen for further action. Second option given to customer, is to replace water heater all together and install new Power Vent water heater, then capping existing flue exhaust in basement and capping flue exhaust in attic. Power vent water heater will have new 2” solid core PVC ran out next to furnace exhaust outside. Informed Shammrock of all potential issues and new scope of work was sent via text. Waiting for confirmation

During this visit I checked in with Derrick and he explained to me what he had been experiencing. We went to the furnace and discovered that the indoor coil was frozen. The system was defrosted and the outdoor condenser was dried. I checked the airflow, blower motor, air filters and confirmed that the registers were open. While the unit was defrosting I performed a visual check for any possible leaks. The evap coil was opened and inspected. The system did have a low charge. A leak search was performed and a point of interest was discovered on the right side of the evap coil 5 u-bends up and about an inch deep into the coil. There was also another point of interest lower and further back. I adjusted the refrigerant charge and confirmed that the system was cooling properly. Inspected the Exhaust flue for the water heater and found that it was damaged, likely during the roof replacement. It is unserviceable in this condition. Emailed estimates to all pertinent parties at Shamrock. Informed the customer that the water heater was off until the flue is replaced. Spoke with Tim at Shamrock. Once the water heater flue replacement is approved, I will contact the customer to let him know when we can install the flue and get his water heater turned back on.

During this visit I repaired the suction line elbow past the compressor. There was also another brazed joint that was reinforced on the suction line. After the brazing was completed nitrogen was used to blow through the system. The 2nd stage circuit was then pressurized with nitrogen and the area repaired was checked with bubbles. The nitrogen was left in the system for about an hour while I roped up the rest of the equipment. The 2nd stage circuit did hold pressure. A vacuum was pulled and then nitrogen was used to break the vacuum and it was then vacuumed into a deep vacuum. The vacuum held steady while I reassembled the top and reattached wiring that was disconnected for the repair. Refrigerant was then weighed in following the manufacturer’s listed capacity for the 2nd stage. The system was then operated via the thermostat and checked for proper cooling function. The system is now cooling properly with a 18deg temp differential. The compressor amps for the 2nd compressor

Today I performed a leak search on the 2nd stage refrigerant circuit for unit#7. The 2nd stage had no refrigerant in it. I increased the pressure to 125psi using nitrogen and located a rather large leak at the first elbow off of the compressor on the suction line. The compressor windings were checked with a megohmeter and tested good. There were no shorts to ground and the windings all read 1.1ohms. The compressor does turn however at this time there is no way to check the pumping capacity until the unit is repaired. Due to the system having no refrigerant and being exposed to the outside air the old filter drier will need to be replaced. This will require the top of the unit to be disassembled to create space between the old filter drier and the insulation that lines the top of the unit. A repair estimate will be created and sent via email for this repair. Thank you, Jon

Arrived for ac maintenance today. System is 3 years old. Started at furnace and checked static pressure, temperature splits, drains, filter, blower motor, and blower wheel. Found filter was very dirty and replaced with provided filter. The blower wheel was dirty and needs to be cleaned to. All other operations are working properly. At the ac unit I checked refrigerant levels, capacitor, contactor, running amps, and coil. Found the coil was very dirty. With customer approval I preformed and extensive coil cleaning. Refrigerant levels were good. All other operations are working properly here too. Wants to review membership options and also wait until fall for wheel cleaning. Thanks for choosing LBA.

Checked blower amps after belt change, 10.6 Unit #5 was checked thoroughly due to a higher than normal compressor amp draw when the preventative maintenance was completed. Today the refrigerant charge was checked as well as airflow across the condenser. The refrigerant pressures were perfect on the low side and slightly elevated on the high side. The compressor amp draw was in range for the uni
